this is the latest collaboration between chris cunningham and richard d james (aphex twin). it is interesting to view this work with the idea of moving image on the net. this particular piece is using a codec named macromedia flash player 7 which is accepted by most browsers. by looking through the coding, they have simply laid the page out using tables, and then the film clip has been saved as a shockwave file using the same embedding code that we are using for quicktime.

this piece came down on my computer as realtime streaming hence using a hypertext transfer protocol. at first, the play was faster than the download, causing it to stall half way through. i had to restart the clip and then it was fine. the image quality was good, but could have been done using lossy compression as it was hard to tell if the clip was intended to look like this or it was the result of compression. one never knows with chris cunningham. the audio was superior, so i presume the file size was quite large.

i believe i should probably put a warning at this point if you are unfamiliar with chris cunningham’s or aphex twin’s work. this clip is a little odd but damn brilliant! these two together is not unlike tim burton and johnny deep.
